In honor of this oh-so-wonderful holiday that has been making single people miserable since time immemorial, I’ve written a short story called “Game of Hearts”. It’s based on this post from the feminist LJ community. Enjoy the hoiday, and please remember to revel responsibly.

I find a punch in the face works wonders to teach invasive others what unwanted physical contact feels like. Too bad it’s more likely to get you into trouble than to help you.
And once you lose your necklace, you have no more necklace left to lose, so you can go about talking as much as you like because you’ve already lost the thing that anyone would want from you. Hmm. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
Yup, that’s exactly what I thought when I read about the “challenge” and I tried to make that connection clear in this piece.
My mom reminded me we used to play this game at my junior high. She works there, and they still play it. On Saint Patrick’s Day, the girls try to win the boys. I won when I went there because I talked to all of the nerds. I just asked nicely if I could have their clover.
