From Nintendo’s women gamers could transform market:
Japanese women have overtaken their male counterparts to become the biggest users of Nintendo’s Wii and DS machines in a seismic shift that the company said would “transform the video games industry”.
This is tekanji’s total lack of surprise.
I see more women playing with their DS on the train then men. The genres that are aimed at women aren’t confined to crappy “girl games” (which in America all too often equal “simple because teh wimmins brains can’t handle real games”). Women game here, and they are much more recognized for the thriving market that they are.
Anyway, the article is worth a read, even though it ventures into bingo territory a few times.

“Technology and computer games are seen as a boy thing, due to attitudes in school and in society towards these subjects…Games and technology are often marketed with sexy girls or in media that is seen as men/boy media…,” has always been what I’ve said and what I’ve always thought male contenders always missed.

Thought of you and this blog last night watching the show “Life.” A key scene involved the cops trying to find some information that a guy who’d been kidnapped had hidden in a video game. The idea was you had to play it to a certain level to get access to the info.
First, they try with the male, geeky Star Trek fan in the office…but he can’t seem to get past the first level. So the kidnapped guy’s sister is given a chance, and makes it. Thus helping to save her brother and the day through an exhibition of her superior geekery.
As I say, made me think of you and this blog…for some reason.
