[...] Some thoughts on the whys of internalized sexism: I think we’re harsher on our own gender both because those who have “fallen” are a reminder that our own tenuous position in male-dominated social circles is gifted by men, and can be as easily taken away, as well as us buying into the same idea that the men have: masculine good, feminine bad.
Great post. Very thoughtful. As a 'geeky' woman I've been struggling with all these things for a long time, and it's nice to see it articulated so clearly :)

I said it before, but I hope it's ok to repeat it. Girly, femme, or feminine gamers/geeks/nerds are not the problem. The problem is that our gamer/geek/nerd creds are being determined by others, based on a completely arbitrary scale. The goal posts are mobile, and those who dole out these dubious accolades are not interested in letting anyone score a touchdown. Unless and until we reject the idea that others get to measure our success, we will always be playing a losing game. The Frag Dolls aren't hurting anyone, it's the people who believe that women have to compete against each other or conform to some ever-changing set of dictates of hotness/non-hotness who do all the damage.

It doesn't hurt me if you like pink, lipstick, frilly dresses, or playing naked, so long as you understand that my disinterest in those things doesn't make me less or more of a gamer (or woman) than you. Oh, and in the middle of a raid-boss fight isn't the exactly the right time to get into it, I'll be happy to talk about it when we're not quite so distracted.
