Im a little late...I keep finding these discussions about our adventure at E3 and occasionally feel teh need to comment.
Kasey and I co-hosted G33KRAWK and she is, indeed, a dyed in the wool G33K. YOu dont see a lot of what happened during the encounter (or before and after). I was the word man for G33kRawk...or as Kasey liked to say, the 'Thinky Guy'. I coached Kasey before hand that IF E3 gave us a problem that she should bring up certain points. I also instructed my cameraman, Roz, to shoot from the hip. The E3 staff assumed we werent filming because teh camera was visible but at Roz's side. Was it a publicity stunt? Yes and no. It garnered attention for our show (on an international level) but it also drew attention to the stupidity, futility and lack of common sense on teh part of E3 event staff. BTW, these folks were employees of the Convention Center NOT E3. We had no problem getting in to E3 it was only when the dowdy sour faced old woman (seen in the video) saw Kasey that there was an issue. Several members of teh staff had actually approached to have pics taken with Kasey prior to this woman intervening. The whole thing was pathetic and showed in glorious technicolor how ill equipped the LA COnvention Center was to host E3. Clueless and out of touch. I felt like I was at an Amish Porn Shoot.
M+TV is long gone but G33KRAWK is still smoldering. Kasey and I are contacted almost daily by folks in the entertainment industry and by fans wondering when we will be returning....
Stay Tuned...

I’m not all that familiar with the specifics of E3, but I thought it was supposed to be more of a trade show than a con.

Well, that's the theory, anyway.

(E3 is the one you need “connections” to get into, right?)

Very tenuous, but yes. For instance, working at EB as a salesperson has been enough in the past. I don't know if they have changed this policy or not.

This may just be the bitterness at not being invited to the party, but aren’t they supposed to be there to (a) advertise a product or (b) report on the products? If they’re just there to cosplay, play the demos, etc., then why limit the attendance?

I agree with you, as do many people. On the one hand, I think that allowing cosplay encourages a fun environment -- and games should be fun! -- but, on the other hand... hello, professionalism? The other main driving reason behind this ban???

I know a lot of hardcore techies who believe that E3 is a joke for these reasons. I myself don't know what to think. On the one hand, they have some kick ass conferences (never been there first hand, the films of them were just... wow...), on the other hand the actual show room stinks of rampant sexism, stupidity, and unprofessionalism. And not just from the atendees, either (developers, I'm looking at you).

I'm still trying to figure out what I think about this:

* As you pointed out, I think banning (accurate) cosplayers is missing the forest for the trees. Especially if they're using a "For the Children" argument; last I checked, Justice League: Heroes was not going to be rated M.

* I'm not all that familiar with the specifics of E3, but I thought it was supposed to be more of a trade show than a con. (E3 is the one you need "connections" to get into, right?) Cosplay at a trade show seems odd to me. This may just be the bitterness at not being invited to the party, but aren't they supposed to be there to (a) advertise a product or (b) report on the products? If they're just there to cosplay, play the demos, etc., then why limit the attendance?

Wow, i'm kinda out of the loop when it comes to new new game stuff so I had no idea they banned booth women models and whatnot but I knew it was a growing maximesq trend. Ya, it is definitely a hypocritical move on their part to say one is bad but not the other. I think vidgames have had the same cultural thing in terms of babe-models much like car culture and import car culture in particular. somehow cars synonymous with babes i guess? Honda or Toyota, i forget which one..used mixed race asian/white models to show off their hybrid cars a few years ago. in both mediums, seemed like the women got more attention than the games or cars themselves. the women take up just as much if not more textual space than the info on cars in import tuner covers...and the last EGM I saw had a full two page collage exclusively on game models and "the coolest exhibitionists!"
